Newest Idea

Just a bit of history ....... since City Boy's GBP surgery......it has been 3.5 years of trail and error on what his tiny little new stomach could hold and would keep down.....exciting times!! Any way the newest item on the menu is this Greek/Italian salad made with the ingredients in the picture.Well....being me .....the brain took over after deciding that $6.99 a lb. at the deli was way tooooo much......"we can make this" the brain said........the roasted peppers i can do......the banana peppers i can do.....it's the sun dried tomatoes that threw me.......
Thos' started the big debate......are sun dried tomatoes, really sun dried?!

After reading the package from top-to- bottom....there was not a clue......these suckers are $3.99 for 4 oz. ....i gott'a know!!
OK....i've got a dehydrator hiding in the pantry ?.......worth a shot!......Male Child suggested ..."just put'm out on the front porch in the sun for a few days".......Ugh!.....There are birds here in the mountains bigger than my cat!....but, he insisted that the tomaotes are "SUN DRIED!"

Sooooo....we compromised....i put the dehydrator on the front porch in the sun.......
OK....let's see if i can use this on Frugal Friday......'
Dehydrator...................................$49.99
Sealing bags.......................................8.00
Tomaotes(from bargain bin)...........2.00
Total $60.00
So far about ........$15.00 a bag.......nope!...... don't think this will make Frugal Friday!!!!

  1. I saw a recipe where they roasted them in the oven on a cookie sheet at low temp for a few hours. I don't know if any are really sun dried. 'On Ya'-ma

  4. I've wondered about those tomatoes
myself. My son makes a great pasta
that he puts them in. If you find
    out, let us know.
I loved the picture of those misty mountains! Have a great week. Pat

  5. I found this link for how to make your own sun-dried tomatoes:

    http://www.pickyourown.org/tomatoes_sun_dried.htm

Ironically, it says to use either your oven or a food dehydrator, or dry the tomatoes inside your car or van on a hot sunny day ...

Also, if you scroll down to the bottom of the page there is a cost breakdown for the finished product.

    Good luck!

  6. I don't know much about GBP, but we have a friend who had it a few years ago. After some struggles it worked out very good. She is a different person.

I struggle with my weight and I always have. Last year I was down almost 40 lbs. This year I aim for 40 more. Hope to do it with right eating and exercise... but it is difficult.

Hope you have wonderful 2009 in terms of health and happiness... the things that are really important.
