Spirit has Hit Me...1

The Christmas Zebra quilt is up ....
The Cards have been sent
and
the shopping is almost done....

Christmas Zebras ...you ask?
Yep!
Back in 2012 when i decided to make a small Christmas quilt for the quilt rack over our bed...In my haste to grab green, red, yellow, and white material.....I grabbed that funky green on the bottom left side, cut it up and made a green and red star......only after i completed the quilt did i notice that the funky green has "Zebras" on it...!!

So...
the Zebras are up and we can let the Holidays begin..!!

She Did It Again!

The Female Parental Unit fell and broke the same wrist she broke three years ago.
She really did a good job this time - all the pins and plates from the previous surgery are KAPUT!
The local ortho doctor sent her directly to a hand/wrist specialist in Boone.
The wrist is repairable it's her age and the question of anesthesia the doctors are working out.
But
to quote the EMT's yesterday
"we're bring in a 89 year old female with a possible broken wrist and she's a Firecracker!!"
I'll keep you posted....

Finally Fall...

After almost two months of drought we've had some rain. Which brought out the fall color and the harvesting of the black walnuts.
In the front yard of the office there are several huge black walnuts trees and when the nuts begin to fall, it sounds like rocks hitting the roof and the little critters start storing up for the winter.  So far, this fall we've had no visits to the office by our furry friends.
But, they do like to hide under the copy machine!

Anyone remember....

..the Bobsey Twins?

They look very much alike except for the 24" height and the 50 pound difference.

Oh Yeah...
And his crooked ears.

Do you Remember

...i remember...
As do most of you...
You remember where you were and what you were doing on this day eleven years ago..
Although some of that day has faded.here's what i remember most..
...hearing the news of a plane crash on the news driving to work
...gathering around an 8" TV watching the Today show with 30 other people in my department.
...hearing a co-worker say...she had just talked to her son in the second tower and everything seemed to be OK
...hearing her scream when the second tower was hit directly below her sons office..
...the many arms that held her.
This post was originally written in 2012.
I still remember.....I still cry.

Not Looking Good

In previous post I've written about the old folk lore tale of the "Beans in a Jar."
Quick reminder...
For every fog in August you put a bean in the jar.  The beans indicate how many snows to expect in the winter months.
Well....
today is August 5th and I've got 4 beans...

Not Looking Good!

R.I.P.

My sweet little laptop, Betty, crashed and burned yesterday afternoon.
Her death was not an unexpected event, after all she had been to the emergency computer clinic several times over the past 2 months.
CityBoy shouted.."Let's go get you a new one!"
Whoa.....hold on to your dollar bills a minute.
CityBoy has 4 laptops..yes..count them...4!
Shimp, Larry , Moe and Curly.
I said ..."why don't I just take Curly and use him?"
but..."he has all that crazy stuff of your dad's on it "...CityBoy stuttered.
Take him to the computer clinic and get him cleaned...easy, peasy....

Anyway...

Curly has all new programing, Windows 10 and all the other new gadgets.
Curly is now MINE...now I just need to learn how to use him.

Betty you were one of the good ones.....RIP

Hump Day....

Good description of my Wednesday..!

Lost keys...a horse...a dog

Last Friday I had a doctor's appointment in Winston-Salem....about an hour and fifteen minutes away.  When suddenly CityBoy said "let's take your truck."
Now when we take my truck I usually drive.
So
Since I was carrying my purse, a bag with water, snacks, all my meds and various things you might need, plus a bowl of dog food for Lula....I placed my keys on the bed cover of my truck...intending to pick them up on the way to the driver's seat.

When I got back to the truck CityBoy was in the drivers seat and I did not see my keys.
Well I thought he picked up the keys and decided to drive.

All was well until Saturday morning, getting ready for the grocery store tour... I asked for my keys
I don't have them he said...well neither do I.....I said!
And the search began.....
Garage- check
Storm drain - check
Driveway to garage - check
Both sides of the LONG driveway - check
NO WHERE!!

We went on with the day thinking we would replace the keys on Monday.
Now I didn't mind  replacing the keys...it's those little plastic tags for 3 grocery stores, Walgreens, CVS...etc.  I was not looking forward to.

My grandmother had ESP.....she had the ability to see lost items and tell you exactly where the item was.  Good thing to have when you lose your keys...however..I don't have this talent.
This is where the horse comes into the picture.  Down the road from us is a farm that trains cattle horses....they ride them by our house  to get them familiar with traffic and use the shallow part of our drainage ditch to get them used to ditches, gullies, uneven ground...etc.
Mikey and I were coming home from our walk when we heard the horses coming toward us...so we stopped under a tree to wait till they passed.
Sure enough they ran one of the horses up and down my ditch.
I knew Mikey would have to sniff out the area where the horse came across.
He kept sniffing and pawing at the gravel in the driveway.
I went to check what he was so interested in and there...
WAS MY KEYS!!!
Bet granny was giggling up there in heaven......

Catching Up....

What are those song lyrics?

"It's a new dawn"
"It's a new day"

Yesterday a co-worker reminded me that I had not blogged in MONTHS!!
So I'm back and lets catch up....

CityBoy has really...really retired this time.  He was diagnosed with emphysema several months ago and is learning to deal with inhalers on a daily basis.

My blood sugar went whacky!
My normal fasting sugar jumped up into the 200s.  And my A1c was at 8.2....if you know anything about blood sugar....you know this is not good.  Sooooo..I finally broke down and went to an Endocrinologist.  He and his team have gotten my sugar down and my A1c down to 7.0....still a ways to go but things on the sugar front are better.

We're Empty Nester's  again.
The MaleChild moved to Fayetteville, NC on July 6th.  He has a job teaching Special ED at an  elementary school of the arts.
Should be interesting.

Mikey and I are up to a mile on our daily walk.   He pulls me up the hills and drags me down the hills.  He's a good boy and my biggest dragon.

Other than those few hi lights everything is running smoothly.
the parental units are good....the job is good....the weather is good, just a little hot...
and it's the dawn of a new day......

Are you sure you want to come in?

Mommy's dragons are on guard  duty....!
