Tuesday.....

Community Watch ....shift change....

Max is on duty!!

During the spring, summer and fall months if the weather cooperates and i'm home....i leave my front door open so the 3M's can come and go on the front porch as they please.....

They love to lay in the sun....take naps......and since the porch is about 15 feet high and covered they like to keep an eye on the 3B's........birds, bunnies and butterflies that move across the front yard.....that's why we have Community Watch.....

Today the male child and i are definitely driving the parkway looking for the Dark Sky Observatory.......it is suppose to be between milepost 269 and 270.......hey! .... we live off of milepost 269!!!....and how can you miss an observatory.......!? Big telescopes....right!!???

All the info i've read on the Internet ..... states that it should open to the public in the Spring of 2009......isn't that like.......NOW!!???

Not to self....."take Camera!!!"

.....and Miss Kitty is taking the early shift for Community Watch.....

it's a tough job ....but....someones gott'a do it....!!

It's Monday.....my newly declared favorite day of the week.......!

Had no plans for today......hoped to just enjoy my day off.....

Maybe take a drive on the parkway and try to find the Dark Sky Observatory....

Maybe just sit all day on the front porch.....maybe finish one of the on-going project in the sewing room.....and....then again....maybe not......

However, City Boy had one of his "bargain boxes" waiting for me yesterday afternoon.....

Sooooooo.......I've got about 8 pounds of peaches to cut, bag and freeze.......!!

Oh welll........maybe tomorrow!

Had a post planned in my brain...but....due to failure of the brain...telling the fingers to push the "done" and "save" button......i had nothing to edit and post when i got to work!!!

This is happening alot lately ..... maybe it's the big "59" looking me in the face...or maybe it's just to much on the brain!!!

It's gonn'a be beautiful up here in the mountains this weekend.....

Pondering.....

...two to four days of the work week ....i drive from the southwest end of the county to the northeast end of the county....Along the way i pass many, many houses and barns that have been abandoned or new ones have been built and the old has just been left to weather......

Have you ever pondered the history of these structures....

The families and livestock they protected from the the rains, the snows, the heat.....

or the hours spend on the front porches watching the children play in the fields...

..... the children and baby animals that grew up in these dwellings.....

The laughter and the tears these buildings have seen.....

....i had two packages waiting for me when i arrived home on Friday....First was my super terrific "Little Scottie" quilt from Karin and the girls @ A Scarlett Thread in McDonough, GA.....

Thanks again girls.......i'll see you in August!!

Then the other package was the fabric i ordered from.....www.connectingthreads.com.....
What a mixed bag that was......

i had to touch, feel, look at and yes.....even sniff, all my new goodies....
( i love that new fabric smell)



This was a fat quarter bundle called....Impressions of Kyoto.....

The main colors are chocolate brown, turquoise and mauve.....with a little beige, cream and greenish-blue thrown in......

Not my usual wild and crazy colors......but, i'm trying to branch-out....become more diverse......expand my out-look....
(Help me!!......Please!!....it's getting deep!!)

Now the big decision is.......what design/pattern to use.....!!??




Then this is the 30's reproduction fabric that came in a Kit for a wall hanging....windmill designs....don't know.....may use it for a baby quilt......

See......back to those bright colors......can't help myself!!

Also, had two charm packs.......but.....i cut them up for tablerunners before i took these pictures.....i'll photo the tablerunners when they're done.....

Well...have to run to the New River Park and earn some money to pay for my addiction to fabric.....

Lazy Sunday....

Mia and Max are watching the Sunday morning bunnies and birds in the front yard....
And I was sitting on the front porch, in my PJ's, drinking coffee....deciding what to blog about today.....

Other than Father's Day.....i got nothing!!...Nothing!!?......me with nothing to say??!!

As i walked inside for a refill....i looked at the temp........72* degrees!!!

Whooooa.....i'm in my baby dolls!!!.....72* in south Florida is ......ahhhhh....almost winter!!

72* in south Florida is a long sleeve shirt and slacks ....for sure Dude!!

Maybe even a sweater!!!

It sort'a sums up the week.....

It's been a week of severe weather....here in the Blue Ridge and the surrounding areas......we've run the gambit from light misty rain to flash floods, golf ball size hail and tornadoes....

Still i'd rather be here in the mountains than any other place....

Thankful Thursday.........

Miss Kitty would "thankfully" send some of this rain down to our friends in Texas!!Look at how green and wet the trees are......

Weather is now the main topic of any conversation in the Blue Ridge......

the nightly Tornado warnings/watches are becoming annoying and we find ourselves laughing about them....instead of listening to them.......

Plus......the biggest problem.......it interrupts the hunt for birds, bunnies, mice, moles, chipmunks and various other monsters that live in the yard........

It's Official.....

......I'm in a rainy day, dismal weather FUNK!!

Well this rain ever stop??

Nothing feels right......every things damp......the trees and wildlife are looking a little ragged....Very green!!.....but, ragged!!

My hands hurt......my knees hurt.....my body just feels like it's been hit by a truck!!

Enough.......all ready!!

It's not all bad......Mama Deer came out to say "hello" as i drank my coffee, while sitting on the front porch this morning......yes, it was raining....

Haven't seen the fawn yet.....but, Mama is much skinnyer...is that a word?.....and is looking for food all the time
This is my work in progress......i really like it and it's going together very quickly....

Maybe ..... i can get out of this funk and finish it today.....

TGIF.....

Well........it's Friday....time to look back over the last five days......

The week started on a down slide with the news that a family member, in FL, had been admitted to hospice......he's been terminally ill for a long time and it's was bitter-sweet news....

And then ......of course......the RAIN!!.....everyday.....everynight......i'm thinking of Goggling the plans for an Ark....

Then i was chosen as the winner of the cute little Scottie quilt over on www.athreadofred.blogspot.com......... WooHoo!!

Then yesterday........sitting on the mail chair was a box from Aberdeen, SD..........i don't know any one in SD........hummmmmmmm....

It was a surprise gift from Natalie over at........www.tinsandtreasures.blogspot.com......for being the first comment on her 200th blog entry.......thanks again Natalie.....i love it all!!

Now this started me to think.....how many blog entries have i made......let's see

Another Neighbor......

Good Afternoon .....Little Lady!!

Late every afternoon this sweet little doe appears in the front yard.....sometimes by herself and sometimes with a few friends.....

Last year she brought us a set of twin fawns and this year we are patiently waiting for the new arrival...... You can't tell from this picture....but....she is nice and round with baby....

We'll keep you posted.....

Today I'm thankful for the beauty of nature that surrounds us....

Try to get outside and enjoy it sometime soon......

It's also the shop my daughter....just llllooovvveesss.....the one where she goes to "Strip Club (??)".....the one where she torments herself over the choice of fabric.......the one where she happily uses the long-arm quilting machine......the place where she has the kindest, sweetest, most caring ladies to help her.......the place where she can go and talk with other "girls"....

She lives in a house full of boys!!

City Boy and i are making the trip to Atlanta in August ....... can't wait to give Karin and the girls a great big Mountain hug.......

Thanks for the quilt, thanks for having such a fantastic shop and thanks for taking care of my female child!!!!

Don't tell.....

....your compulsive collection oriented family ....that you might....maybe....your thinking ....about collecting a few cookie jars!!!

It started with this one ...... that i found at a flew market for just $2.00....hey!...it's Noah's Ark and i thought it was kind'a cute and needed a good home.......
Then the husband and kids got involved....and these appeared

Then the parents added a few.......

Then the in-laws, aunts and uncles pitched in......
Then the seasons changed and the Christmas gifts from all of the above and the co-workers got into the act.......

Not pictured are the chicken, polar bear and igloo......they're on the mantels and i forgot to take they're picture....sorry!

The thing that worries me......... is the 4 boxes still in the basement that i haven't unpacked yet.....

Where will i put them....????

Maybe i'll send them to the female child.....

i think they would go well with her.......ceramic fish-shaped soup tureens.....!

I know there's been lots of rain and the grass/weeds are so high that Max can't raise his leg to the proper height and has resorted to the female doggie style.......but!!

Must it start Saturday morning at 7:30 AM.....?????

Friday.......once again it's time to take a look over my shoulder and review this past week...For a slow week....with nothing of major importance going on ..... the last few days have flown bye......

1. Parental units finally moved into the Lodge.....only took 8 weeks!!

2. RAIN, RAIN and more rain

3. Daily Flash Floods warnings

4. City Boy's first opportunity to do some volunteer work for the local VA van service

5. Male Child started the summer session at college......yeah!!

6. Got our incentive check with this month's Social Security...only to find out on the same day ....that my truck needed new brakes......oh well!!...it was in the account for about 2 hours>>

7. Started my newest quilting project...need to finish by the end of August....gonn'a be a wedding present for a co-worker of City Boys....

8. Almost forgot!!!.......Dogs got the first bath of the season!!

Well......the weekend is upon us.....we're both off work.....

I'm sure City Boy has all kinds of plans...

As long as it includes going to the Watauga Farmers Market.......it's OK with me!!

Since it's Tuesday morning and i really have nothing to blog about.....after all the parental units are in the Lodge....it hasn't rained in four days......the birds are chirping and the sun is out in full force.......Let me tell you about this little thing i saw......On my way to the Wal Marts Sunday morning.........in the distance i saw a motorcycle......no big deal!...there are lots of them up here.....

As i got closer i noticed the cycle had three wheels,was waiting for me to pass, so he could turn into a church parking lot and was being driven by an elderly gentleman...in full Sunday morning dress......white shirt, tie, sport jacket, polished boots and "pressed" jeans.....

Yep!....he had on his "Sunday-go-to-meeting" clothes.......

As i passed ..... i waved and he waved back......then in the rear view mirror......

i saw the little lady seated behind him....

Yep!...she had on those "Sunday-go-to-meeting" clothes,too .......

with her purse and hat in her hand....

Talk about cute........!!??

I amuse easily!

We are not alone.......

Shortly before noon on Sunday, the parental units made the final trip from the summer cottage to the Lodge...... and.......The Cats Have Arrived!!!

This makes the move official...

And when we opened the crates ....the fun began....

Now .... if you were a cat and you had been living in a summer cottage with approx. 900 square feet.....and someone plucked you out of there ....put you in a box.....put you in a car.....and dropped you off in a new house with 3200 square feet ....what would you do??!!

You guessed it.....EXPLORE AND RUN.......!!!!
Susie Q and Jeff settled right in after the "free-for-all"
But....Trace....he's still looking over this new place....

Lights were on at the top of the hill last night.....strange.....we're no longer the only Floridians living on the mountain........

Now the big question.....do we sell the summer cottage.....or..... keep it for visitor overflow!!>??
