this past weekend...

was one of the very few weekends I've had to work at the park....
Ever heard of longboarding......it's a longer-wider version of a regular skate board...
Well
There is a Longboard Association and they have official races...
And
this past weekend they used Mt. Jefferson for the first longboard race in the State of North Carolina.
Some of these guy and girls reach speeds of over 55 mph!
Thanks to Ranger Tom's wife Vicki for taking pictures rain or shine...here's two...

This was Saturday.....it was perfect for racing
Here's Sunday....the clouds opened with 4.8 inches of rain....but they raced anyway..!
The winner was the National Champion from Canada..

Even with the rain a great time was had by all and plans are already in the works for next year...

  2. That must have been exciting. I'd never heard of long boarding before. Too bad it had to rain on them.

  3. WOW 55mph is fast on a small board. Some kids have great balance. I would have fallen flat (still would of course) on a scate board of any size!
Thanks for an education.. It is a wondeful thing to love one's job!

  4. I could never do this in a million years - even before my knees wore out, it was impossible for me! xo
