Never Again...??

This is the fruits of my labor.....
and i do mean LABOR...capital letters please..!!

Cases and cases of pears began to appear at the top of the stairs...!!

Seems someone at CityBoy's work has a pear tree that was OVER producing..
And ...."OF COURSE"...CityBoy says...Bring'um to me...
Boomer will do something with them...

Urrrgggg...!!

Welll.....
After peeling ....peeling.....and more peeling...
I ended up with 5 pints of pear preserves and 5 pints of pear butter....

Never again......pears are a lot of work....peeling....peeling and more peeling...

The deer are getting the left over pears...

I can't eat it anyway with the sugar issues....

But....i didn't want to add the pears to the 500 lbs of food an average family throws away each year...

Wait..!!

Does feeding the deer count as throw away...?

Don't think sooooo...!!

Whew....

I'll never again be average...i knew the herd would come in handy someday..

  1. They look beautiful, and, on some of the cold Winter days to come, you will pull out a jar and remember Summer.

  2. They look delicious. I know it's hard work now but sooo yummy in the winter. I think the deer will appreciate the pears.

  3. I feel your pain. My friend has tons of pears, and turns them into pear crisps, instead of using apples. Delicious

  4. I would have enjoyed some pears along with my apples this fine autumn day. Glad you persevered and got all that good stuff made. Too bad you can't even enjoy it, but I'm sure those deer did. No it's never a waste to feed them...what a treat they had. Hope your Thursday is a great one!

  5. I LOVE this entry. You are one case. I know the feeling of work, or I think I remember it.
The canned stuff looks good. and I can see the deer smiling now! "THANKS", they say thru their teeth with a mouth full of pear.

"YOU ARE A NICE PERSON" is also heard. LOL

(Lord, is that interpreting animal stuff 'catching' at this site?)

  6. Great job!!! I love canning but pears are tedious. I prefer peaches and apricots. You will enjoy them during the months where fruit is limited-o.k.maybe your family will enjoy them. I do believe every now and again that it is o.k. to have a tiny touch unless you are diabetic. I can using natural low amounts of sugar-in fact the recipe I use was from a diabetic cookbook. I do love the look of canned goods though.
    Hugs today. Noreen

  7. Those are beautiful. I have never heard of pear butter. Bet it would be good. We had an over abundance of pears this year also. I have sugar issues also so we gave some away. The rest fell off to be eat by the different birds and bees. Ken did throw them over the fence so he could mow though.
