That the female in this household has had a few CRAZY days this past week.....

Sooooo.....please forgive her for missing some daily blogs......

She's been involved in that strange thing out at the river park with some sort'a Snot Otter.....eeeewwwwww!!......and then last night our family company came in a day early.....

then tomorrow it's off to the outlet mall with the female parental unit and the SIL.....

She barely has time to go to work....

Thank goodness CityBoy and the Male Child feed me....!!

Well gott'a go......there are bunnies to chase.......bird to stalk and twelve acres to watch-over....

Saturday is the "New River Celebration..!"

And we are featuring local artist at the Visitor's Center......

that makes his home in the New River up here in the high country....

Let's keep him off the endangered list....!!

I think the male child has a knack for being in the" right "place....at the" right" time....with the "right" conditions........and we all know he has some sort'a camera attached to the" right" hand most of the time.....!!

Cause he told me he used the automatic focus and settings.....!!

Time for a Count......

Well.......here we are mid-way thru August and it's time for a bead Count....
If you remember this is the "ole mountain women" system of predicting the snow falls for the coming winter season......you determine this by observing the "fogs" of August.....

Blue beads for heavy fog and green beads for light fog.....Hummmmmmm

As you can see ....we've got...
5 blue beads and 7 green beads....and....it's only August 15th.....!!

Winter's not looking so good.....!!??

And there was our little 4-point buck chowing down with Thelma and Lou...

Mama was close by and he didn't seem to bother her...

Just like a happy little family......they ate their fill...and disappeared into the woods

He's a nice looking guy.....but....lots of scars on his back and shoulders....

I don't understand......

.....may fascination with this milky white Pryex/Glassware...tattooed baking dishes from the 1960's.....

No we didn't find Nemo for the salt water tank...

But....we did find a huge thrift store where i found another treasure....
this one is round with an avocado flower tattoo and is the perfect size for corn casserole...
This brings my "collection?" up to three pieces ... !!

The store was having a half price sale on clothes.....woohoo....
The male child found 5 pairs of "good" pants with that gently worn look that he likes for $1.25 each.....such a deal...!!

CityBoy didn't find a thing......he said the place smelled....
Well...it did smell......it smelled like "old stuff"....

Yes folks!!

It's the first day of school up here in our little section of the high country.....

Too Early...you say......

Yes ...a bit early ...but....last year we lost 21 days to "snow and ice".....

So this year there are more "make-up" days built into the calendar....

Which if we don't use them ...makes for more holidays.......yeah!!

My only problem with the first day of school......

I forgot how much traffic school creates.....!!

The "Dog" Guys.......

I know everyone has heard of the "Dog Days of Summer"...

But....these are the "Dog Guys of Summer"....

Every morning and afternoon....on the knoll across from our front porch.....

At least 3-4 trucks.....loaded with old men and beagles...arrive

As the beagles race thru the Xmax trees searching for the allusive bunny rabbits ...

The men try to out talk each other...telling tales of the old days....discussing who's got the best team of dogs this year and who's gonna go to the next competition.....

It also seems you need a cane or stick to lean on to join this group....

Sometimes it sounds like a women's beauty shop......chatter and laughter abound....

(wonder if they realize sound carries)

Anyway....the talking....laughter....barking.....baying....squealing....and yipping go on till dark...

And then they disappear into the mist... as quitely as they arrived....

A change in the weather......

Well.......there's been a change in the weather up here in the high country and the "Ritis Boys" have come to haunt me.......

And they brought along their friend ...."Fall Allergies"..just to add to the party

So for the last few days it's been a whirl wind of decisions on which Rx to take at what time.....is it time for the decongestant.....the antihistamine.......the muscle relaxer or just go for the pain pill for the entire body aches.......

Such choices......what's a girl to do......?

Welll....i'm dropping a green bead in the bottle and going back to bed.....

In the garbage can......

My good buddy Chris moved to Key Largo last month

Don't ask me why...been there...done that....

She called and said ...."i'm sending you a few things that i'm not taking with me"....OK

The Faberware rotisserie grill was a welcome addition....

And then there was an old metal garbage can.....which we put aside...thinking it was full of junk we'd eventually take to the land fill.....

But....Holy Moly.....!!

This is what was in the old can.......a #10 crock....with the lid....!!!

We won't count the two dead snakes and the old blanket......OK

Well....it's August 1st and this is what it looks like outside.....
It's 63* on the front porch and i can't see the road...
With weather like this i decided we should be ready....

Large apothecary bottle with cork to put glass beads in....
Tomato jar to hold extra beads......OMG.....hope i don't use that many....!!

(note bottle has a blue bead already)

We'll see if this "ole" mountain woman thing works....
