For the gurus......

However, this is what our Wednesday was like here in the high country...

We started the day with a temp hovering around 60 and light rain....

then we went to HEAVY rain.....about 4.5 inches all total.....

Major flooding....bridges under water...opening of emergency shelters...

temps dropping 30*....then came the winds and the snow...which created the icy road conditions.

Whew..!!

Now as soon as the sun come out.....the water recedes....and the salt truck/snow plow clears our road...

I might make it into work....

Being ice bound for the last few days....

I've done a little Internet surfing and have a question...

"What's happened to the price of jeans..?"

Thinking maybe i'd invest in a color, other than light or dark blue..

to the web i went...

Oh....i had no idea..!

What i found cost anywhere from $39.99 - $130.99..!

and does anyone make a size higher than L..?

And colors.....would you wear fuchsia pink..?

The world doesn't need my rear end coming past them looking like an unripe crab apple...

So it's back to Wally World ...

where i can get good old blue and sometimes black..

 boot legged 20W petite  for $19.97  and no shipped charge.

Plus, i can get milk, bread and pet food before the next storm..

I'll keep my eyes on the windows and at the first sign of moisture falling from the sky...

I'll make up my time next week when the sun is shinning and it's 45* instead of 17*..!

..furious....loud....continuing...

all night....sounded like one freight train after another was rushing thru the house...

The gurus are saying the gusts are up to "only" 45 mph...

Come spend the night at my house...

Up here on the mountain we're in the pit crew of a NASCAR wind race..

The gurus are also saying the winds should calm down by mid-morning..

Hope they get that one right...

Temp is 20* and the wind is blowing it's head off...

lowering things to about 3* on the front porch...

The mountain should be below zero...

hope someone beats me there...opens the main gate and turns up the heat...

Can't complain....no snow in the future...

which means no ice...

(i hate ice)

But

Even with the wind...cold...snow...ice....

i love it up here in the high country...!!

Oops...!

Let me state for the record ..

When we built the house...the outside stairs are not what i wanted..

They're to close to the house and to steep..

And when it snows.....snow builds up at the bottom..the sun never hits them..

So it takes forever for them to become usable...

In 2010...the last heavy snow we had...i spent hours clearing them and creating this...

so my family and guest would be safe from slippage on the ice...

Friday and Saturday...off and on...all day..

i spent hours ... once again creating a safe environment..

AND WHO SLIPS AND FALLS

Me..!!! **xx!!

Thank goodness i was on the next to last step and have lots of padding on the bottom half of my body..

No damage....just a little sore...

Now if i find the crowbar..

Those steps are history...!!

even with 6 inches of snow on the ground and wearing her best sweater...

a girls gotta' dig when the urge hits..!!

Weather gurus are saying we got 9 inches

but 

the rangers told me they got 11 inches of snow at their cabins on Mt. Jefferson..

so glad...!!...i took today as a vacation day...!!

Mia's watching the valley for the first "really" big snow fall of the season...

It's suppose to start by mid-afternoon and end by mid-night and

the weather gurus are predicting 3-6 inches..

That's alot of the white fluffy stuff in a very short time.

Lucky for me....i'm taking a vacation day tomorrow !

I plan to be home by 12:30 this afternoon and "hunker down"

(i soooooo dislike that phrase...!)

until sometime Saturday or Sunday....maybe even Monday since i have that day off also...

(MLK Day)

Thank goodness i have plenty of bread and milk...would not want to be in the stores today..

How did he get those huge "bumps"...were there limbs there at one time...did the weather conditions effect their growth...and all that lichen (green looking stuff) on his trunk..?

I hope he stays healthy..wealthy..and wise ..

and we don't have to turn him into this...

Almost Ready....

Remember the homeless beagles that the parental units are caring for...?

Well, the day after Thanksgiving, Maggie gave us 4 beautiful pure-bred pups..

This week they go to the cute vet for puppy shots and worming...

then in about 10 days they will be ready for a forever home.

Beagle mom & dad are both rabbit hunting dogs...

so

these little guys should have the hunting gene...

They're free....or we could work you a deal....

take one...get another for nothing...!!

Ten days in to the new year and time has already blurred...

I've read that January is suppose to be a clam month...

OK

If this is calm ... i don't want to see the storm....

Had a charm pack that's been hanging around for several years...

stacked and whacked and came up with this colorful wall hanging...

Now i've got a bunch of little 1x3 1/2 inch rectangles..

Hummmmm....

Maybe Misskitty will get a new matching cat mat...

or

Maybe i'll just save them for later...

Carolina Blue or what....??!!

Like alot of you....2013 brought around the ole promise to lose weight this year...

So i got on the computer and found a free weight loss guideline to suggest what to eat and help count all the crazy stuff..calories, sodium, sugar, etc.....that went into my body each day...

Well

After three days of watching everything that goes in my mouth and writing it down in my little food counter....

I've gained a pound and a half...!!

I was doing better on my own food plan..

Today i will venture out to the Curves here in town to check them out...

Curves is an old friend....back in the Florida days, Mom and i went a least 4 days a week ...and we both felt and looked really good...

Of course we didn't have all this good home cooked mountain food temping us on a daily basis..

I guess this is 2013 kicking me in the back side and telling me to get up and move my A....!

I usually miss sunsets 'cause of kitchen detail..

yesterday i was really quick....didn't have a lot to clean or the days are getting longer..

Don't know....but...there it was...there i was with camera in hand...

Yesterdays bug..

It has a Latin name that's about 24 letters long...

longer than the bug...

it's most commomly known as the Asian Lady Beetle...

They look like Lady Bugs except they are orange with brown spots..they also fly....and eat aphids..

however

they live in the Christmas tree field around the cabin...invade the cabin in October..

and i've always called them the Christmas tree bugs..

i think

i don't remember

anyway

they are annoying...but...cute..

Found three little Christmas tree beetles on my steamy...foggy...bedroom window on New Year's Day..

Hope i can walk a straighter line for this year..

Last Visitors....

....these visitors were on the front lawn as i was leaving work on 12/31/12...

It was a cold nasty day...so...i wonder if they were the last visitors of the year....

Hummmm....

How did you spend the first day of the New Year...?

Around the cabin it was take down the Christmas decor day...

It's gone...packed away...waiting for next year...

Opps......missed one....always do....guess the little snowman will have to hang in the dining room window all year.....maybe the cat will play with it....
