Pondering...again....

...this morning while driving around town, doing the last minute...day before i go back to work errands......i found myself unconsciously comparing gas prices...

they seem to range between $3.33 - $3.39 for a gallon of regular gas.....

Hummm........the brain began to churn......

What would happen if just ONE of the big oil companies came forward and said...

"We're tired of this.......we gonna do something for the American people....!!
We're gonna forgo our gazillion dollar profit this year.......our CEO's will not be receiving their mega million dollar bonuses this year......

We're going to freeze the price of gas at $2.50 a gallon until further notice......
Take the money you'll be saving at the pumps ...... buy food for your families.......pour your found dollars back into the economy......

We of the ONE big oil company support you our customers.....!!"

Can you imagine the lines to purchase your gas at a station with a reasonable price....!!

Would you wait in line to buy gas for $2.50?.........

I would.....but....then i remember the gas lines during the early 70's...

Sunday R&R.......

How 'bout that..!!

I'm sitting here at the kitchen desk with the front door open onto the porch......camera in one hand....trying to type on the keyboard with the other hand.....still in my PJ's.....cup of coffee to the left of me and the refrig, stocked with lots of goodies to the right of me......

As you can see.....Max & Mia are telling the local wildlife to pipe-down the MaleChild is still sleeping....and CityBoy left for work before dawn.......

I love mornings like this.......nothing on the agenda.....
I'm gonna take a pointer from "Ma" and use this as an R&R day....
Maybe i'll quilt......maybe i'll read......maybe i'll do some experimenting in the kitchen.....maybe i'll reward myself for saving $19.50 using coupons at the grocery stores yesterday.....maybe i'll even get dressed....maybe i'll watch movies all day.....since STARZ's is giving me free movies for 12 months.....watched Julie/Julia last night....pretty good chick flick.....

PS.....for those of you that are wondering......"Yes".....i turn off the heat before i opened the door...!!

March Monkeys......

.....they're all washed...folded...stuffed in the envelope....addressed and Monday will be on their way to a kid....from "Quilts for Kids"...

March Monkeys.....which is #3 so far...... will make some little boy or girl all warm and snug for their hospital stay.....then go home with them for more cuddling....

The pictures do not do justice to the colors......they are a VERY bright...orange, lime green, olive green, neon blue, turquoise.....with some splashes of bright yellow....

Sounds awful.....right?

But....turned out ...really cute....!!

I Want......

....a "really" big windmill....!!

One that would create enough power to run my house and the parental unit's house up the hill....

The strength of the wind gust over the last few days have been strong enough to power the whole neighborhood....!!

I heard it moaning and groaning during the night and first i think....

• didn't i leave Florida to get away from hurricane force winds

then i think...

• what a waste ....all that nice gale force .... if i had a windmill the local power company could be paying me for my excess wattage.....!!

Well....if i had the money.....it would be something to investigate....

Do you think Wal Mart would let me put donation jars at the check-out lines...??

We're thankful for the rain....
And we're hoping it washes away that nasty smell from the 27 acres across the road...that the big trucks spread fertilizer on last week....

Imagine My Surprise......

....when CityBoy came home from work and announced that he needed......"a baby quilt for one of the guys at work...."

" Oh.....is it for a new grand baby?".....i asked....

"No" he said and walked away.....

Whoaaaaa Nellie.....most of CityBoys co-workers......the ones i know.....seem to fit into the...."Good Ole' Grocery Boy Club"....and seem to all be about the same age.....give or take a few years (grandpa age)....!

Well.......i finally got the full story.....this is for a coworker that moved about an hour south of our little mountain town last year......and......seems he and his wife are a little younger......and......seems almost as soon as the move was completed, things settled down, new jobs were started....

Surprise.......new and first Baby....!!

Yesterday, the female parental unit and i ventured out and down off the mountain.....sort'a...
After a visit to the beauty shop....where we got a good dose of beautiful....
We ventured on to the ...one stop light town of Lansing....

Mom wanted to visit this lovely little shop....
They were having a sale....!!
Now this little emporium of linens and household goodies has been here....FOREVER...

Just open the door and "dive" in......there is stuff stacked everywhere....!!

I've been told inventory is a nightmare and can drive the workers to drink and take extended vacations.....

But....after a dig, an archeologist would have been proud of.....
we found just the right bedspread....

For Those that Asked.....

Yes.... i made this quilt...
It has a history...

It is the only appliqued quilt i've ever made..
It's one of the few tied quilts i've ever made..
It's the first wall hanging i've ever made..

And here's the real history part...
When my FemaleChild was a teenager she attended a private Christian school.....which had uniforms for school hours and a dress code for school functions....

She soon realized, she could make herself a new outfit from 2 yards of fabric( one yard per skirt and one yard per blouse)......and since JoAnne's Fabric was on the way home and material at that time was reasonable in price....

Voila....!!

A new outfit for each occasion....!!

And.... my little Valentines wall hanging is made from the left over materials.....

After all that practice with a sewing machine.....she grew up...got married and had....
THREE BOYS.....!!!

She does quilt.....sooooo...the beat goes on...!!

Sooooo....being such....and we all know that cats live to hunt....
In the spring of the year, her hunting season begins...
We receive mice....baby bunnies....moles... an occasional bird....sometimes a lizard or frog..
Placed on the mat at the front door....
And the look of "look what i brought you" on kitty's face is priceless...

Well......this morning we had a mouse...!!

Early AM Eye Opener.....

Se that rectangular shape behind CityBoys right shoulder....
Well.....it's the air compressor for the AC/heating units ...

This is the little culprit that gave me heart palpitations early this AM...!!

As i stumbled down the stairs early this morning....i glanced out the window in the back door...only to see smoke....OK...MaleChild is warming up his truck before he leaves for class....
out the back door the dogs and i went......Hummmmm....don't hear the truck's engine running....Hummmm...kids Friday class is at noon........but, i smell smoke.....Hummmmm....walk to the gate ......look down the side of the house......

The COMPRESSOR looks like a chimney.....!!! Smoke bellowing....!!

Yahhhhhhh....it's 8-10 feet away from the buried 500 gallon propane tank...!!!

Ran back up the stairs.....made CityBoy get up....turned off heat.....!!
Ran back down stairs......touched compressor to see if it was hot.......No...not hot....Looked down inside...could not tell if there was anything burning.....a little smokey smell....

Ran back up the stairs.....CityBoy is on the phone leaving a message for the AC repairman...

Wait....wait.....wait.........ring....ring....ring......
Hello...!!!!

Did you know that the new AC/Heat Air compressors have an automatic "defrost" cycle....??

It was defrosting....!!!!!.....and that smoke was really steam....!!
Everything is OK.....except i may need another blood pressure pill......

Yep..bloggers.....today is the day...
The day we must run out the door...after the snow melts.....and have the dreaded income taxes done....ugh....!!

To be honest....we've never had to pay......we have always gotten a return.....some years more $$ than others...

And there is a wonderful group of retirees in this area, that work out of the library......who prepare and file your taxes for ...FREE....!!

But....i like to have this look hiding in the wings...just in case...

Maybe, i'll just take Max with us and squeeze him if we need to use the "look!"

It's Snowing Again......

...the sky's are suppose to give us flurries and snow showers for the next two to three days....

Hummmmm...is there a difference between flurries and snow showers....
does one produce more snow than the other....??

Up here in the Twelve Acre Wood the winds are blowing at a rate of...
"Your not Sticking Today" speed.....!!

Sooooo....i guess i'll spend part of the day watching the wind push the flakes around.....

Would this be a case of .."Wind Bullying?"

In A Fog.....

There's also a cold...damp....misty rain falling....

It's Thankful Thursday.....
And i've been thinking of a few things i'm very thankful for....
Here goes...

• This last Mega-storm missed our neck of the woods.....we just had a few days of fog.....rain....sleet.....ice and now cold wind...
• Mama keeps a pantry full of kitty food.....(she's forgiven for the surprise trip to the vet....after all it was the new cute one....)
• I can sleep on the guestroom bed.....the Malechild's bed.....the dog bed....and in the sunshine on the windowsill....
• I have a buddy named Jack69..who's been asking for me......Hi...Jack...!! How's Florida?

• And the best one of all.......the dogs are in tr-ou-bble..!!...for digging holes, Mom & Dad told them not to.....they don't listen...!!

Well....got'a go....the sun is shinning and it's time for my morning nap...

the MaleChild Cooks.....

...On Monday, CityBoy and the male parental unit from up the hill went to a flea market in a near by town......
Papa came home with 3 pounds of raw peanuts for the MaleChild...

So what does the MaleChild do.....

...Tosses them in the big crock pot with alot of Kosher Salt...
Covers them with water ...... locks the lid.....waits patiently....
and makes boiled peanuts......
only took about 24 hours....
but....it is SuperBowl weekend....!!

Hope they last until then......hummmmmmmm.....

Disappearing.....

....we've been inundated with fog and the rain is on the way...
(above picture is good compared to last night and earlier today)

But..it's only the fringes of the storm coming across the mid-west...
Headed for the Atlantic Coast...

"Watch out here is Comes"....
Wasn't that a hit song somewhere back in the pass when i was teenager or maybe a young adult.....Yeah.....young adult....i remember singing it with my kids.....!!

Be careful out there, all my blogger friends in the path of this storm.......i don't like what Al Roker is showing me about the weather over the next few days....
